Today we're introducing two game-changing features to CarbonSync: direct CAD Integration and our AI Materials Agent—features designed to dramatically cut the time it takes industrial designers to create sustainable products while maintaining precision and creativity.

Sustainable design is the art of balancing form, function, and environmental impact. But let's be honest—the process of performing a Product Lifecycle Assessment (LCA) has traditionally been about as exciting as watching paint dry (sustainably sourced paint, of course).

At CarbonSync, we're always searching for ways to make sustainable design both easier and faster. But so many great eco-design ideas are often abandoned due to the time-consuming complexities of LCA data gathering, tools that require specialized knowledge, and the sky high prices of a full LCA review.

Today, we're launching two new features that address these pain points head-on, allowing you to explore sustainability no matter where you are in your design process.

From CAD Files to Carbon Footprint in Minutes

Organizing your bill of materials for an LCA has been the digital equivalent of building a ship in a bottle. It's painstaking, time-consuming, and occasionally makes you want to throw things.

It's why we built our CAD drag and drop - To allow users to skip the manual modeling and get straight to making sustainable design decisions.

How it Works

Just upload your CAD .step files directly to CarbonSync, and watch as our system automatically maps components, identifies materials, and calculates environmental impact. What used to take days now takes seconds.

With CarbonSync’s CAD drag and drop, you don't have to start from zero. The system preserves your design's structure and metadata while adding the critical layer of sustainability analysis. Our tool transforms static 3D models into dynamic environmental assessments you can actually use to make informed decisions.

AI Materials Agent: Your Sustainable Design Companion

Static material libraries can only take you so far, making it painstakingly hard to balance technical requirements with sustainability goals. Its not uncommon for design teams to spend several weeks in limbo trying to figure out the right tradeoffs between technical performance and environmental impact. Our new AI Materials Recommendation Agent creates new possibilities for designers throughout the product development process.

How it Works

Simply describe your product brief and technical requirements in plain language, and our AI will suggest optimal materials for each component. Need a water-resistant, lightweight material with minimal carbon impact for a portable outdoor device? Just ask. Our AI doesn't just know materials—it understands design contexts and environmental tradeoffs.

Designers will be able to simply point to a component and explore scenarios like: "What's the environmental impact if I make this housing from recycled polycarbonate instead of ABS?" or "Suggest alternative materials for the front legs of my office desk with a high load bearing capacity" With this engine, CarbonSync serves as a powerful tool that designers, engineers, and sustainability managers can use to define, iterate, and refine ideas from start to finish within a centralized sustainability context.

Anyone from a product design team can explore alternate materials, test environmental impact scenarios, or validate technical requirements, regardless of their role or technical background. By eliminating the sustainability expertise barrier, CarbonSync enables everyone on the team to meaningfully contribute to creating truly sustainable products.

Expanding Eco-Design's Possibilities

These new features are just the beginning. We're already working on several exciting additions to our product roadmap:

Beyond Carbon Footprint: Avoiding carbon tunnel vision is our topmost priority, which means, training our users to think in systems and not static data points. When we treat carbon footprint as a silver bullet, the larger context of designing for sustainability gets lost. We’re introducing a whole range of environmental metrics that include - water consumption, biodegradability, ecotoxicity etc. in the coming months.

Design for Longevity Agent: Coming soon, our 'Design for Longevity' Agent will specialize in extending the lifespan of your products. This agent will analyze your design choices and suggest modifications to enhance durability, repairability, and adaptability—turning planned obsolescence into planned permanence. After all, the most sustainable product is the one you don't have to replace.

Environmental Regulation Monitor: We're also developing an agent that monitors compliance with environmental regulations in real-time. This agent will flag toxic or restricted substances while your bill of materials is being finalized, rather than after you've manufactured 10,000 units (oops!). And yes, it's built to cover the upcoming EU ESPR regulations for product categories like furniture, consumer electronics, and medical devices. Because finding out your innovative new material is actually banned in 27 countries shouldn't be a post-production surprise.

We can't wait to see the sustainable products you build. Because let's face it—the planet can't wait either.

Note: CarbonSync's CAD Integration currently supports major .STEP files from SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Rhino, and more.

We are on a mission to transform how products are designed and made.

Did you know that only 16% of consumer products sold in the United States are eco-friendly? This statistic underscores the pressing need for our mission and the urgency of our work.
